Articulation-
Phonology

Articulation therapy focuses on producing correct speech sounds. Certain sounds develop at stages as children grow. Through assessment, it can be determined whether your child is producing age-appropriate sounds and if treatment is necessary

Phonological patterns refer to simplifications  used by typically developing children to make speech production easier. However, as children mature we expect them to outgrow these patterns. Through assessment it can be determined whether a child continues to exhibit any phonological patterns longer than necessary.

Tongue Thrust-
OroFaciaL Myology

Orofacial Myology or “Tongue Thrust”  concerns the proper placement of the tongue at rest and movement of the tongue during a swallow. These are important as they can affect speech clarity and dentition. If the tongue rests too far forward in the mouth, this can result in pushing the teeth forward to create an overbite or open bite. In conjunction with orthodontics, regular treatment to retrain the tongue rest position and swallowing movement will be needed to solve the underlying issues.

Language

Language refers to the ability to understand others and express oneself. Speech Pathologists assess multiple aspects of language such as word structure, concepts, syntax and semantics. Treatment and goals are developed based on the areas of need reflected in the testing.
